frequently asked.

the short answers. for setup and the cli, see the docs.

do i need a mac?
yes. cantscroll detects your ai coding agents on your mac (via a companion agent) and blocks distracting apps on your paired iphone. it's a mac + iphone product — the phone app on its own has nothing to react to.
which coding agents does it work with?
claude code is detected precisely via its session hooks. cursor and other agents are detected by their running process. you can watch any custom tool with cantscroll add-trigger <process>. agents that run entirely in the browser (no local process) can't be detected.
does it work when my mac and phone are on different networks?
yes. on the same wi-fi it's a direct, end-to-end encrypted connection — near-instant. on different networks (mac on wi-fi, phone on cellular) it falls back to apple's push service automatically; blocking still works, usually within a few seconds.
does cantscroll block websites on my mac too?
not yet. today cantscroll blocks apps on your iphone — that's where the doomscrolling actually happens. blocking distracting sites in your mac browser is on the roadmap for a later release, not part of the current version.
is my data private?
yes. there's no account and no login. the connection between your mac and iphone is end-to-end encrypted, your session history and stats live on your device and are never uploaded, and cantscroll doesn't track you, sell data, or run analytics on your behavior. details in the privacy policy.
how much does it cost? is there a free trial?
cantscroll is a subscription: $59.99/year with a 3-day free trial, or $7.99/month. cancel anytime — the mac companion agent is included. full details on the pricing page, or get it on the app store.
how do i cancel?
cancel in your iphone's settings → subscriptions (or app store → subscriptions). note that deleting the app alone does not cancel billing — apple keeps the subscription active until you cancel it there.
is this a parental control or a security tool?
no. cantscroll is a commitment device for people who want to stay focused — not a lock someone else controls. cantscroll panic instantly unblocks everything, no password, whenever you want out.
will it slow down my mac?
no. the agent is a lightweight background process that checks for coding agents every few seconds and does nothing else until one starts. it stays out of the way.
how do i uninstall it?
cleanly, in a couple of commands — see uninstall in the docs. no leftover background processes.
